Finding the right belt shouldn’t be guesswork.
At BeltUp, we specialise in belts — not trends — so we’ve created a simple guide to help you choose the right size, leather, width and buckle for your body, outfit and lifestyle.
Whether you’re buying your first premium leather belt or upgrading from a worn-out favourite, this guide gives you everything you need to make the perfect choice.
1. Start With the Right Size
The most common belt-buying mistake is choosing the wrong size.
Your belt should fit on the middle hole — not the first, not the last.
✔ Most Accurate Method
Measure your waist at the height you wear the belt (hips, high waisted, mid waist)
That measurement in inches = your belt size.
✔ Fast Method (Using Your Old Belt)
Measure your old belt from the buckle end to your most-used hole.
That measurement in inches = your belt size.
✔ If You Don't Have a Measuring Tape
Use your pants size + 2 inches as a guide.
Example: 34" pants → 36" belt.

2. Choose the Right Belt Width
Different widths suit different outfits. Here’s the simple rule:
30–35mm — Work & Dress
-
Clean and professional
-
Fits suit pants and work trousers
-
Great everyday office width
38–40mm — Casual / Jeans
-
Bigger buckles, bolder designs
-
Made for denim and chinos
-
Strong weekend/all-rounder width
13–25mm — Ladies Slim Belts
-
Ideal for dresses and smart casual outfits
-
Adds shape and proportions without bulk
-
A great accessory piece
Tip: Gents - if you want one belt to do everything, choose 35mm.

Use leather conditioner or wax biannually or as required
